Word of the Day - Crick: Pittsburgh, PA

The crick pronunciation might be used in Pittsburgh, but it certainly isn't unique to the Steel City. Growing up in La Crosse, WI, I noticed older residents saying "crick" instead of "creek". It would be interesting to figure out where people say "crick" vs. "creek". That will have to be our next project.

Until tomorrow,

I was born in Jacksonville, NC., but was raised in Canton, Ohio. I often heard my mother (Baltimore native) say, "crick". I don't know where she picked up that term, but she's not the only one I've heard say it.

I now live in Beltsville, Md., and my boyfriend laughs at me when I say it. He says it's NOT a word...
